The social and cultural history of the classical Islamic world, especially the Abbasid Empire. Specific interest in economic and financial practices, as well as cultural norms related to wealth and ambition. Also interested in inter-personal relations and values related to societal sub-groups, including issues of gender, intimacy and sexuality.
