Dr. Hilla Peled-Shapira

Dr. Hilla Peled-Shapira is a scholar of modern Arabic literature with a special interest in Soviet-Arab relations, Iraqi Communist literature, Kurdish poetry in Arabic, literature and the environment, exile literature, and the connections between the image of urban space and ideology. She is the author of The Prose Works of Gha’ib Tu’ma Farman: The City and the Beast (Lexington, 2018) and has published peer-reviewed articles in the Journal of Arabic Literature, The Journal for Interdisciplinary Middle Eastern Studies, Journal of Semitic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Die Welt des Islams, Oriente Moderno, and Kurdish Studies. She also contributed a chapter to State and Society in Iraq: Citizenship under Occupation, Dictatorship and Democratisation (I.B Tauris, 2017) and a book review to the International Journal of Middle East Studies.
