Prof. Ronit Meroz

Prof. Meroz researches and teaches the history of Kabbalah and its poetics. She has published extensively about Lurianic Kabbalah, and in recent years she has focused on the earlier phases of Kabbalah, especially the Book of Zohar.

 

The following book was nominated as the “Best Book in Jewish Thought” by the World Union of Jewish Studies for 2018–2019 (Matanel Prize):

R. Meroz, The Spiritual Biography of R. Simeon bar Yochay; An Analysis of the Zohar’s Textual Components, Jerusalem 2018 & 2019, 555 pp. (Hebrew).

 

The following book was awarded the 2020 Ben Zvi Prize for research of the Jewish Communities in the East:

R. Meroz, Headwaters of the Zohar - Analysis & Annotated Critical Edition of Parashat Exodus of the Zohar, Tel Aviv 2019, 780 pp. + a synoptic online edition, 1400 pp. (Hebrew)

 

Prof. Meroz was awarded the Scholem Prize for Kabbalah Research, 2022 by the Israel Academy of Sciences for outstanding scholarship of Kabbalah.
