Roy Amir is a researcher of philosophy and Modern Jewish Thought. His research focuses on the systematic rationalism and the Jewish thinking of Herman Cohen. He is a postdoctoral fellow at the Franz Rosenzweig Minerva Research Center for German-Jewish Literature and Cultural History at the Hebrew University. Before joining the Franz Rosenzweig Center, he was a PhD fellow at the Department of Philosophy at Potsdam University. His research was supported by the Mandel School for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the Hebrew University, the Minerva Foundation and the ISF research project “Theocracy and Perfectionism in Modern Jewish Philosophy.” Roy’s dissertation, completed at the Hebrew University, analyzes the notion of rationality in Cohen’s System of Philosophy. Roy has published papers on Cohen’s political philosophy, as well as on his reception in Walter Benjamin and Franz Rosenzweig. His current projects are a reevaluation of Cohen’s neglected interpretation of Kant and a study of Cohen’s seminal Religion of Reason Our of the Sources of Judaism in light of his systematic philosophical notions.
