Prof. Tsaffrir Zor obtained his BSc degree in chemistry in 1992 from the Hebrew university of Jerusalem as a participant of the “Amirim” outstanding students program. He obtained his PhD in biochemistry from the same institution in 1998, for the development of tools for identification and characterization of G proteins activity, under the supervision of Prof. Zvi Selinger. He then joined the laboratory of Prof. Peter Wright at the Scripps Research Institute (La-Jolla, California) as a post-doctoral fellow, working on structural and characterization of transcriptional activator-coactivator protein complexes. Since 2004 he has been a principal investigator in the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Tel-Aviv University. His research focuses on signal transduction pathways in macrophages which initiate or down-regulate inflammation. A major interest of the laboratory is to understand how certain endogenous sphingolipids are positively or negatively involved in the inflammatory process.
